April 27 will be a historic day for all those concerned with justice and human rights: the day of the first non-racial elections in South Africa's history. It is almost certain that the African National Congress will win the election, perhaps with the two-thirds majority it needs to alter the new constitution itself.

Hundreds of foreign journalists will descend on South Africa to cover the elections. One of those hundreds will be from Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly.

Norm Dixon, who has been covering South Africa for Â鶹´«Ã½ since its first issue, last week left for South Africa to report on the lead-up to the elections. Norm's reports will give readers a unique insight into the dynamics of change in South Africa, from the perspective of those who have fought for that change.

Our new South African bureau will provide Â鶹´«Ã½ with the side of the story that's missing from the establishment media: reports, interviews and in-depth political analysis, written from an unashamedly pro-ANC viewpoint.

In Sydney on Saturday, February 19, Â鶹´«Ã½ is staging a benefit to help pay our expenses. A range of South African and Aboriginal artists will make the night an event not to be missed. If you want to read Â鶹´«Ã½ reports from South Africa and live in Sydney, why not come along and lend your support? For information on venue and costs, turn to the advertisement on page 22.

From April 27 the face of the world will be a little different. Only Â鶹´«Ã½ will tell you how different. Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly — it's your anti-apartheid newspaper.
