BRISBANE — On June 7, 40 people attended an anti-war forum jointly organised by the Stop the War Collective and the Brisbane Anti-Bases group.
Speakers included Marianne Hanson, a lecturer in the Department of International Relations at the University of Queensland; Community and Public Sector Union organiser Maggie May; and Ciaron O'Reilly, a well-known non-violent resistance campaigner since the late 1970s, who said of criminal charges he currently faces in Ireland for inflicting $2.5 million in damage to military equipment bound for Iraq: "It's the only equipment that didn't make it."
O'Reilly urged those who could make it to join the protests in Rockhampton against the massive military exercises planned by the US and Australia.
