The Socialist Alliance National Executive issued the following statement on February 7.Ā

Ā ā€¢ ā€¢ ā€¢

United States President Donald Trumpā€™s ā€œGaza-Rivieraā€ plan must be condemned by all supporters of Palestine.

Trumpā€™s imperialistic desire to mount an Israel-US take-over of the Gaza Strip has been US policy for decades.

Its crude expression has caught the headlines, but Joe Biden and his Zionist Secretary of State Antony Blinken said much the same in a less inflammatory way.

Allowing Israel to normalise a ā€œGreater Israelā€ and leave the West Bank ā€œbantustanisedā€ is against international law, and all democratic voices must ensure it is not allowed to happen.

However, as the world has witnessed during the last 16 months of genocide in Gaza, the US has enabled Israel to break international law time and again.

If not for the global pro-Palestine movement, a shaky ceasefire would not be in place today, allowing families to try and access medical help and food, and to find their relatives and belongings.

If the Australian government had a shred of respect for human rights and international law, it would join in the global condemnation of Trumpā€™s ethnic cleansing proposal.

Instead, the cowardly Prime Minister Anthony Albanese studiously .

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has praised Trumpā€™s plan as aĀ ā€œā€.

The undeclared election campaign means all supporters of justice for Palestine must make their position clear.

Only a significantly more powerful movement, working with Palestinians in Gaza and the Occupied West Bank, will be able to counter the imperialistsā€™ plans to erase Palestine.

To this end, the Socialist Alliance is campaigning for an Australian government that will:

  • Demand a permanent ceasefire, which would mean Israel withdraws all its military from Gaza and the Occupied Territories, including the West Bank;
  • Lift the blockade on Gaza;
  • Impose a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel;
  • Sanction the Israeli state, including the supply of weaponsā€™ components and intelligence.
  • Invest millions in rebuilding Gaza;
  • Expel Israelā€™s ambassador and recall Australiaā€™s ambassador from Tel Aviv;
  • Commit to uphold the International Criminal Courtā€™s arrest warrant of Netanyahu;Ā and
  • Demand that Palestinian refugees be resettled in their traditional homelands, with full rights.
